Cat S61: thermal imager, range finder and Land Rover Explorer in one package

The Bullit Group has presented two new tough phones: the Cat S61 and Land Rover Explorer. They are especially for people who work under extreme conditions, or who regularly go out. In the novelty, the thermal imager did not just stay, but even became better: now it fixes temperatures from -20 to +400 degrees Celsius, and its resolution has grown from VGA (0.3 Mp) to HD (1 Mp). Also, Bullitt added to the Cat S61 two more rare sensors - a laser rangefinder (up to 10 m) and a VOC sensor in the air.



Bullitt Mobile, which produces smartphones under the brands Cat and Kodak, introduced the flagship smartphone of the first one. Model Cat S61 was a direct successor to the previous year's Cat S60, which became the world's first smartphone with a thermal imager. In the novelty, the thermal imager did not just stay, but even became better: now it fixes temperatures from -20 to +400 degrees Celsius, and its resolution has grown from VGA (0.3 Mp) to HD (1 Mp). 

The Popular predecessor Cat S60 and the New successor are both called construction worker phone. They are the smartphone that can take a beating. In his own words, Predecessor survived a fall of a height of 1.80 meters. In addition, Bullitt added to the Cat S61 two more rare sensors - a laser rangefinder (up to 10 m) and a VOC sensor in the air.

About the Cat S61

Let's immediately switch to the specifications. The features of the Cat S61 include 5.2 inches in diameter and features a Full HD resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels screen that can recognize gloves and wet fingers. Screen also possess Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Its predecessor had a 4.7 inch HD display. A pre-installed Android Oreo operating system (upgrade to P), Heat-sensitive FLIR camera module at the back. The camera measures everything from -20 to +400 degrees Celsius. In addition, the Bullit Group has equipped the Cat S61 with a laser measurement system. It can measure distances up to 10 meters and calculate surfaces.

Another useful feature is the sensors to measure indoor air quality. This way you can be sure that there are not too many paint vapors or other potentially dangerous odors when you walk into a room. Of course, you can also shoot ordinary pictures with the Cat S61. For this, he is equipped with a 16 and 8-megapixel camera with 4K video recording function.




Cat S61 battery capacity is 4500 mAh and supports Quick Charge 4.0. Also equipped with dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5 and NFC, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory, a microSD slot and a single-chip platform Snapdragon 630. Of course, Cat smartphones cannot do without protection: military standard MIL-STD-810G, dust protection IP68, You can immerse it for an hour underwater at a depth of three meters. He received the MLT-STD-810G certificate for nothing. About the Land Rover Explorer

The second device that the Bullit Group has revealed is the Land Rover Explorer. It is intended for hikers and other outdoor sportspeople looking for a robust and waterproof phone. According to the manufacturer, the design of the phone is taken from the grille, headlights, and interior of the eponymous car. For example, the back has the distinctive design that you may know from the rooftops of Land Rover.

The Land Rover Explorer has a 5-inch FHD display and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Just like the Cat S61, the screen can be operated with wet fingers and gloves. Below the screen, we find a deca-core processor - that is, its cores - from MediaTek that reaches peak speeds up to 2.6 GHz. He gets approval from 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. Pictures shoot you with a 16 and 8-megapixel camera. By default, you get no less than 4000 mAh of power. With this, you can easily say two days ahead with a battery charge. 

If you go out and there are no charging points and sockets nearby, that is a welcome addition. If necessary, you can purchase an extra Adventure Pack. This module is attached to the back to extend the battery capacity to 7600 mAh.



In addition to the Adventure Pack, a Bike Pack is also available. With this package, you attach the Land Rover Explorer to the frame of your bike. Handy if you start using navigation software not to get lost. The Bullit Group provides the View Ranger app for free. This contains detailed maps that even indicate cycling and hiking trails.


Availability

The Cat S61 is available through the manufacturer's webshop (Cat Phones) during the second quarter. Here is a price tag of 899 euros. The sale of the Land Rover Explorer starts in May. For this shock-resistant boy, you have to put an amount of 649 euros on the table. Both devices can be seen next week at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
