LG G6 gets Android 8.0 Oreo in February

Are you an LG G6 User? Then Techzuma.com has good news for you. The flagship will finally get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo next month. There is, however, a catch. Became curious? Then read on quickly.

LG G6

The LG G6 is one of the flagships that still does not run on Android 8.0 Oreo. And that while the latest version of Google's operating system was launched in August 2017. It is a minor blot on a flagship with a shining reputation. The device was introduced in February last February at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). We expect to see a successor in Barcelona next month or early March. A little less than two months and then the starting signal for the biggest smartphone trade fair in Europe sounds.

The LG G6 still runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. Since then, the flagship has received a software update several times. Usually in the form of security patches, but occasionally with a number of new features. The device received the face recognition technology Face Print and one-handed operation last August. The camera software also warns you if your finger accidentally shoots in front of the lens when you want to shoot a photo.

Android Oreo is coming

So LG does not sit still when it comes to software updates. But really energetic she is not working again. The LG G6 is now almost a year old and still runs on an outdated operating system. A little while and you can get started with Android 8.0 Oreo.

You may have heard that LG launched a beta program for the LG G6 at the end of December. This test version is only available for Chinese users. An international test environment such as HMD Global and Samsung that use for their flagships is unfortunately not there. However, thanks to this program, we now know that Android Oreo is approaching. Via an e-mail, LG's customer service will let you know that the flagship will get the latest version of Google's operating system in February.

There is, as said, a snake that lurks under the grass. In the relevant e-mail, LG writes that only the H870S model Android Oreo gets in February. This specific model is only available in the Middle East. So it is not yet certain whether European customers of LG will also receive Android Oreo for their flagship in February. In any case, it is a strong indication that the roll-out is not long overdue.

New in Android 8.0 Oreo

Google has added all kinds of new features to Android Oreo. One of them is Notification Channels . With this you indicate per subject (Channel) which notifications you do and do not want to receive. You can indicate that you do not want to receive sports news, for example, but you do have domestic news. Thanks to picture-in-picture you can watch a video while surfing the internet. If this feature is enabled and you press the Home button, the operating system reduces the video to a compact size.

Notification Dots tell you exactly how many new messages you have received and therefore have to read. That number appears as a number on the app icon of apps that support this functionality. Thanks to Smart Text Selection , you have even more options than copy and paste when you select text. You can, for example, open a web page directly if you hint a URL, or create an e-mail if you select an e-mail address. And of course the overall stability of the operating system has been improved and the battery life has been further optimized. Like every year you get dozens of new emoji now.
